The Multi-Functional Storage Unit, also known as an MFSU, is an end-game Industrial Craft 2 machine. It's the highest tier of EU storage devices, preceded by the BatBox and the MFE. The MFSU can store up to 10,000,000 EU (sixteen and a half MFEs or 250 BatBoxes), and is a common buffer between High Voltage generators and the machines to be powered.
The MFSU will accept up to High Voltage (packets under 512 EU/t) inputs, such as from a High Voltage Solar Array. It will also output High Voltage, and as such, will blow up any Low and Medium Voltage machinery and cabling it's attached to. (In addition to Ultra-Low-Current Cable and Copper Cable, the MFSU cannot be connected with Gold Cable, which can only accept Medium Voltage.) The MFSU requires the use of either two Transformer Upgrades per machine or a MV Transformer followed by a LV Transformer if one wishes to connect Low Voltage machines to the MFSU. (Similarly, if one wishes to connect a Nuclear Reactor generating EU packets larger than 512 EU/t to the MFSU, the use of a HV Transformer is required.)
The MFSU's GUI features two slots. The top slot can be used for recharging tools, batteries, Energy Crystals, or Lapotron Crystals. Batteries and crystals can also be placed in the bottom slot of the GUI to recharge the MFSU itself.
Like the BatBox and MFE, the MFSU has five input faces and one output face. The output face faces the player when the block is placed. The output face is marked by an orange dot, and the output face can be changed using a Wrench, an Electric Wrench, or a Prototype OmniWrench. All energy storage devices will reset the energy loss calculations for running cables long distances, which makes them useful inline if one needs to transport energy hundreds of blocks.
The BatBox, MFE, and MFSU can be configured to emit a redstone signal under certain conditions.
|Emit if full||When the storage device is at maximum charge, it will emit a redstone signal.|
|Emit if partially filled||When the storage device is filled some ways between empty and maximum, it will emit a redstone signal.|
|Emit if empty||When the storage device contains no charge, it will emit a redstone signal.|
|Do not output energy||If a redstone signal is supplied to the device on any of its faces, it will not output EU.|
|Do not output energy unless full||If a redstone signal is supplied to the device on any of its faces, it will not output EU until the storage device is at maximum charge.|
